Tasting Notes by Jim McEwan
Aromas and Flavors - Opens with a delicious fruity flavor of pear, melon and kiwi encapsulated in the sweetness of caramelized oak sugars with a hint of cinnamon and honey.
Delicious, complex, very round. At this age, one would expect oak to dominate, but this is not the case. The crisp sweetness of barley in harmony with the mellowness of oak brings a nice balance of seductive flavors and aromas.
You also detect a sweet flowering heather as well as notes of primroses and lilies which provide a brilliant opening on the spiciness of the aged bourbon oak tannins. The taste is exceptional and this mellow combination of oak-roasted cereals and red fruits is deliciously sweet and lingers on the palate for a long time.
Tomatin is highly sought after by "blenders" and now you know why. It is a magnificent Highland whisky, where the small notes of heather and wild flowers do not allow the oak to dominate.
Highland harmony in a glass!
