Collection: Islay
The "Queen of the Hebrides" is also the island of whiskies.
There are currently nine operating distilleries on Islay, with two more expected to open within the next two years.
The first recorded distillery was Bowmore, founded in 1779; the most recent is Ardnahoe, which was created in 2018.
Islay distilleries are spread all over the island; however, the three on the south coast - Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig - are located next to each other and are collectively known as the Kildalton Distilleries.
Islay is famous for its smoky, peated whiskeys.
